Blood Moon and Sapolski

 Highlights of today:

  • I was lying in bed vacillating between being lazy or going for my twice weekly early morning swim, and laziness was about to win the argument when this nerdy little guy I follow on Xiahongshu came up on my feed. He explained that he knocks out one hard thing every day whether he feels like doing it or not.
  • I left the house before dawn and caught sight of a fat and sassy red moon hanging low over black silhouetted rooftops, peeking at me from behind spider-vein bare tree boughs. #lunareclipse #serendipity
  • I had been dreading a scenario in which all the lanes were already taken, but I arrived to find the pool completely empty.
  • There were free snacks at work, relatively healthful ones.
  • I had time to listen to an entire hour-long interview with Dr. Robert Sapolski on his position that we do not have free will.
  • I had brought my sport sandals to change into after work because it's so lovely out.
  • Discussed Sapolski's views with my sweetie over the phone before bed. At one point he said, "Kelly, Kelly, Kelly," and I pushed back and told him that's a patronizing way to talk to someone. Heh, heh.
  • Checked out a library book called tiny experiments by Anne-Laure Le Cunff. I am only a few pages in, but I like it already.
I had one of those wonderful days when everything feels low stakes. No anxiety. I think Sapolski's talk helped with that.
